Angel Pumping Gas is about a full-service gas station attendant, who leaves a lasting impression on an unsuspecting driver. While I did not write the song, the origins of it are a bit of a mystery. The song briefly entered into widespread circulation in the P2P era of Kazaa and Limewire as a mislabeled track, falsely attributed to Postal Service. I hadn't heard the song in over a decade until I rediscovered the download on my first iPod (which amazingly still works). It's a great song, and I have no idea why it wasn't a hit (perfect material for a cover song!).

My best guess as to who wrote it is a disbanded group called Lindsey Pool. Their website no longer exists, and there is no record of the song in any licensing database that I can find. However, there is a very odd YouTube video of a fan blowing back and forth with this song playing in the background, attributed to Lindsey Pool. They have one album on Spotify from 2007, but Angel Pumping Gas isn't on it. I did find out that the band was from Oregon, which until recently, did not allow drivers to pump their own gas. Aha! Could this be the clue that cracks the case?!

In any case, it's a great song, and I feel that it has a little bit more life left in its tank. It deserves another spin around the track. It's not quite ready to fade off into oblivion — like the aromatic fumes of gas, being pumped by an angelic Oregonian. Enjoy!
